Resolutions Kept (So Far)

Every year I make resolutions that I never am able to keep, so this year I took a different tack. Instead of choosing things I SHOULD do, I chose items I WANT to do! It really makes life so much easier. I made two resolutions and so far have kept both of them.

The first one was inspired by a cool website, Photojojo, an off-beat site dedicated to the world of photography. One of the contributors wrote about a man who makes a promise to take at least one photograph a day for the whole year. I modified to fit my personal goals. I vowed (to myself) to write something every day in 2009. What will I write? Perhaps a poem, a section in a novel, a chapter outline, a blog entry about writing and teaching, or an important query letter...so many possibilities.

So far I'm an a roll. Woohoo! Now to sustain it through another 340 days or so...

My other resolution? To eat more chocolate. That, too, is going well.

Earlier this month in my class we discussed resolutions and I asked if anyone wanted to share one and if it was kept or not. The shortest was about an hour ("To get along better with my brother") and another a year ("To get better grades in school...I'm on the honor roll now"). I want to embrace President Obama's (Yippee!! OH MY GOODNESS!!!) message of change, so we are going to work as a team on what children can do to make our school, nation, and world a better place.

Topic:
Share a current or past resolution
Or:
What do you do, on a small or grand scale, to make the world a better place?

I didn't really do resolutions this year...just chiming in to say this line...

"My other resolution? To eat more chocolate. That, too, is going well."

...almost made me snort coffee out my nose this morning.

Resolutions
I resolved to:
1. Own a home before the end of the year (we close on the 16th of Feb.)
2. Get a better career, doing clinical research. (still working on it)
3. Start a novel with Wilmington NC as a setting. (I've written 373 pages ....in my head....)
4. Continue to vote my hopes and not my fears as I did in Nov.
5. Become a better Father to my daughter and husband to my wife. (work in progress)
6. Remember my former comrades as they deploy AGAIN.
7. Get my sister treatment for her choc-aholicism.

Re: Resolutions
That's quite a Valentine's present to one another - a new home! Congrats!! I am so happy for you.

Best of everything for #5 - you have a great heart, so it is there for you to grasp.

RE: #7. Do not, I repeat DO NOT get me "help" for my chocolate problem. Never get between me & my Hershey's. You have been warned. MWAHAHAHA

BONUS POINTS
Last week when I told the student you recommend bonus points for him, he couldn't believe that a "REAL AUTHOR!!!" had responded to his comment. He grinned throughout the rest of the class, and was a bit of a mini-celebrity for the rest of the day.
The students all thought it was so cool you sent them a Thank You...you made their day!
