Who to be? Who to be? The question: If you could be any character from a book from your childhood, who would it be?

Books began holding sway over me since I was a child. People always joked about me always having my nose poked in a novel. My theory is it was an escape and a source of constancy as an Air Force brat. When I was wanting to fit into my new school and wishing for an instant friend, I could turn to a book while I was waiting. So, in light of that, there were many favorites.

I can narrow it down to two:

Jesse in The Boxcar Children...I checked that book out of the library in West Virginia so many times they should have just put a nameplate inside the front cover for me. I would go with my aunt to an "ancient" dump and recreate the children's dish collection while she searched for old bottles.

Sam in My Side of the Mountain...when I lived in Nebraska I built a shelter out of, all things, old concrete slabs my dad had busted up from the sidewalk. Can you imagine if that thing had caved in on me? (My parents had no idea I had climbed over a fence into the vacant lot to accomplish this!) Once on a walk with my cousins, we found an old hollowed out sycamore tree and we all fit inside of it. You could look up and see the sky, even though the tree was still living. It became the home of my dreams.

So, you armchair psychiatrists out there, and any bona fide ones, what does this say about me?
