High Fives & Fist Bumps for Everyone!

Thank goodness I have still been posting on Fridays! The end of the school year is always a busy one...tracking down kids with missing work to make sure they pass, grading last minute homework assignments, preparing for the test, packing the room, ordering supplies for the coming year, etc. Whew. We are getting closer, though, to finals week. But here are some reasons I'm feelin' good:

1) The boy came home from college on Thursday. (BTW, son, sorry I locked you out of the house after you flew all the way from CA and then had to come to school to get a house key...) Oops.

2) My students presented their ROCK ON! Marketing Projects...so cool. They each had to write a formal business letter to an up-and-coming musician in the role of a marketing company. Then they each made two examples of what their company would do to help promote the artist. They chose from a huge list they generated in class together. Some made CD covers, websites, billboard mock-ups, concert posters, recorded radio advertisements, etc. It was great fun when they made their pitch to the class, showing off their creations. What a bunch of talented kids!

3) After many years of trying, the NYS English regents exam is being reduced from a two day, six hour test to a one day, three hour test! (Those of you who are friends with me on Facebook knew this from my Monday meeting.) Why the changes after so long? The snowstorm in January after the kids had taken part one, on the second day. What a mess. But now all is right & I'm happy. *madIrishclogging* Yippee!

4) I have such wonderful friends. When I ponder the intelligent, funny, witty, clever, caring, thoughtful, kind, loving, super-de-duper people I know, I can hardly believe it. I am so fortunate. BIG VIRTUAL HUGS FOR EVERYONE!

5) The Red Wings took the Stanley Cup. (Okay the game isn't until later tonight, but maybe if I put it out there, it will come true. Unless I just jinxed it...oops.)

Once again I wish I could have been your student. The marketing thing rocks so many ways!

Special friend: Doug T., who I only see every five years or so, but we always seem to pick up where we left off.

You'd definitely be an A+ pupil in my class! When I was reviewing the year through a "Remember This Project?" PowerPoint, this one boy shouted out, "Boy, we sure did a whole heckuva lot of cool stuff this year!"

At the end I told them to star their top four favorite learning units. Many raised their hand and asked if they could star more. I LOVE MY JOB!

Now, what is it about people like your Doug that make it so easy to pick up like that, 'cause I know what you mean. Is it a quality that person has with others or just a chemistry that clicks between the two? What do you think?

Congrats on all the good stuff. Hugs to you, too!

I think of you often and am so glad I was fortunate enough to meet you in person at NESCBWI in NH this spring! You are so smart and witty - it was fun to hang out with you there. : )

I know we only spent a short while together, but I was just thinking the other day that I miss you.

Special friend: Sarita H. Remarkable in many ways, but the one that stands out is how inclusive she is. "Come along with us," is almost her mantra. She connects people to other people, invites them into her circle -- they might hang around only a short time, or they might hang around for life, but while they are there they feel welcome and at home.

No wonder you love her! I wish everyone could be taught to be gracious and inclusive from childhood so they can go to be like your friend Sarita. You are lucky to have someone like that in your life!

Tree quiz
I had some of my family take the tree quiz. The results were my mom and my little brother matt were Red Oaks just like me. My other little brother Nate was an American Beech.
