Scary Dreams?

Today I was looking through books in my classroom during SSR for something to read since I had just finished my book. I spied a title I hadn't read (a pretty rare feat) and pulled it out. The cover was chilling and the blurb on the back was even scarier. I just couldn't bring myself to open it and start reading. All because I had a scary dream the night brefore. The book reminded me too much of that dream. It was one of those chasing dreams...the kind where you can't get away. Finally I did...by jumping from a high balcony. We all have different fears we face...some of them ordinary and others uncommon.

Recently I read Pat Murphy's book THE WILD GIRLS, which is a wonderful novel about two twelve year old girls who like to write. In the book, the girls find a wonderful writing mentor named Verla, who teaches a summer  program. She talks to the class about how to become better writers. As a writer, I found her words inspiring and had post-it notes on all of the sections where Verla is teaching the girls voice, perspective, honesty, etc.

One of the assignments Verla gives the class is to write about something scary. The twist is, she challenges them to write about something that might be scary just to them...something aside from common fears of spiders, snakes, or enclosed spaces.

So if you were given the assignment to write about something that scares you that might be a little out of the norm, what you choose as your topic?

That has so many sad and disturbing twists that could lead someone to that position...very chilling.
