Writing Conference

Although I've been to MANY conventions and conferences in the past, this weekend marks my first writing conference!

I'm so excited to venture to Montpelier's  Vermont College of Fine Arts Novel Writing Retreat. Truth be told, I'm a little nervous, too. What if the positive comments in my critique group is, "Well, you sure do have a nice size font here!" haha!

What is your experience at a writing conference? What should I expect? Any advice?

Send positive vibes my way this weekend!

I'm making my packing list, preparing my body of work, and trying to be zen. I'll let you know how it goes!

You're going to have a wonderful time. I haven't ever been to a retreat, but every conference I've gone to has been great. Just take a breath, step forward, and say "hi." Enjoy!

Thanks!
I guess deep down inside we just want people to like us!
:)
Your advice is right on...deep breaths are healthy/calming and I do hope to make some new writer friends!

And your margins... Your margins are so nice and spacious!

Just kidding - your book rocks and you're going to love meeting people. Have a great time!

*looks over both shoulders nervously*

Is it okay for me to admit that every writers' conference I've been to has been hugely disappointing?

HOWEVER, I wanted to go to this one because it sounded different: small, mellow, with excellent presenters, and actual TIME TO WRITE. I can't wait.

So I'll be there, and we seem to already have stuff to talk about. I'll look forward to meeting you!

Oh, and if you get any unhelpful negative critiques, I can only pass on the wisdom of one of my LJ buddies: BRING WATER PISTOLS.

Yippee! I can't wait to see someone I "know" there! :) I love livejournal. :)

I think I'm going for the supersonic soaker. Albeit, it is harder to hide than a water pistol, but so much more effective. haha

I have thick skin...I actually am more worried about hurting someone else's feelings than hearing my work is drivel and painful to read. (Although I'm sure they would phrase it more delicately...after all, they are wordsmiths!)

Well, I think you can look forward to networking with other writers (some you'll even like) and being inspired to write more good stuff. Take the crits in stride and have fun!

Thanks for the advice and I'm sure you are right about meeting people! I am starting to get more excited than nervous and am making my packing list (I LOVE LISTS!) haha

Have you been to a conference like this before? I wonder what happens during the critique sessions?
